Steven Hergott, a descendant of German immigrants, was born and raised in New York City and now lives in Dover, New Hampshire. He holds degrees in both civil and environmental engineering.
Steve has worked in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) industry since 1980 as a sales professional, consultant, trainer and business owner. With a keen interest in indoor air quality, he is a NORMI Certified Advanced IAQ Assessor (CAIA) and Certified Mold Assessor (CMA), a member of the Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA) and a Council-certified Indoor Environmental Consultant (CIEC). Known for his attention to detail and holistic approach, Steve truly cares about his clients and is passionate about recommending HVAC solutions that make their homes healthier and more comfortable.
When Steve started his first HVAC contracting company, he had no employees, just a determination to succeed. His business quickly grew, and he later branched out into indoor air quality assessments, which he offers through Inspired Indoor Air, LLC.
Steve's two wonderful children - now highly-capable adults - are following in his footsteps as hardworking professionals and his wife, who teaches wellness and fitness, motivates him to stay in shape. He loves to hike, ski, canoe and generally enjoys being outdoors.
Healthy Harmless Home
The homes we live in can be a source of great comfort and joy, but they can also be challenging in terms of our overall health and well-being. A hundred years ago, our homes tended to be healthier places to live in because, for the most part, they were drafty and built with lumber and materials that did not outgas as much as they do today. Our homes today, however, tend to be very energy efficient, tightly constructed, and well insulated, with very low infiltration rates of outdoor air, and they are often unhealthy to live in—unless they have certain HVAC accessories and indoor air-quality improvement products.
This book will list and describe early-warning danger signs of an unhealthy home. Each chapter will focus on a particular indoor pollutant or house characteristic that might lead to home-induced illnesses. A recurring theme will be how to diagnose the problems and what solutions are available. A good diagnosis is critical and may be best done by a certified indoor air-quality assessor or indoor environmental professional. Many of the recommended solutions will be HVAC related (heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning) and best installed by a qualified HVAC contractor.
